Whilst I was skiing in France it snowed in the UK causing travel chaos particularly. In particular, many schools were closed.
I emailed the Editor of the Leicester Mercury about the different effects that snow had between where I was and at home in Leicester. It was published on February 11th 2009:
Presently I'm in Val d'Isere, France, where the World Skiing Championships are being held.
The score at present is Leicester 4, Val d'Isere (that is inches of snow falling yesterday)
However, the score for the season is Leicester 4, Val d'Isere 60.
The schools in Val d'Isere are open and although there has been over two feet of snow, constantly in the town since November, the school has never closed.
If the schools here closed due to snow, they would never open.
